It’s been awhile, 8 months to be exact, since my last blog post. A lot has happened in that time, but I’ll stick to one topic today:
While I did not “open shop” until this month, I’ve been diligently working on the business as a whole since last September. For the first few months I was searching for and getting materials needed. The past 4 months I’ve been creating my inventory – albeit a slow process.
I really wanted to have a larger inventory before making this announcement, but I’m too excited about it. I had also told a couple people they would see this post this week. So … here we are.
If any of you followed Your Gardening Friend in the past, you might remember a DIY project from a little over a year ago.
Back in December 2013 / January 2014, I made my very first ever project involving power tools: a suet plug bird feeder. Even though it wasn’t until the end of last year that I started making birdhouses, I’d have to say that that suet plug feeder was the beginning of this madness.
I mentioned in that post how I could see my Christmas lists morphing into something previously unfamiliar to me. That was no joke. For Christmas last year, I asked my husband for a fancy-shmansy 12-inch, dual-bevel, radial miter saw. I know. You did too. It’s every girl’s dream, right? I got it!!! My dear husband even surprised me with a new table saw. (Our old miter saw and table saw were, at best, dreadful.)
With my new tools, I’ve been working hard – and having way too much fun – to make unique items for you to enjoy in your front yard, back yard, front porch, garden, and even your living room.
It will take me a bit of time to build my inventory, but rest assured I’m always working on a project to display and sell on Etsy. I have birdhouses in various stages throughout my house and up in our barn. Each one takes time, and I don’t like to rush something I enjoy. I want each birdhouse to be my best birdhouse.
I’ve been focusing first on birdhouses; however, I do plan on making flower boxes, birdfeeders, and MORE!!! (Plan on seeing some surprises down the road.)
