Depending on where you live in the world, you’re either at the beginning or middle of canning season. Or, if you live somewhere that’s perpetually warm with an almost never-ending growing season, you get to enjoy canning even longer.

Kendra Lynne at New Life on a Homestead created an easy-to-follow canning tutorial DVD called At Home Canning for Beginners & Beyond (affiliate link). She’s now offering a $5 OFF sale (if you use the coupon code).

I purchased this video recently, and I’ve watched it almost in its entirety. Because of that, I can say first-hand it’s a must-have video.

May I digress for just a moment?

Here on Your Gardening Friend you learn about gardening, foraging, garden recipes, garden critters, landscaping, and faith and encouragement. Here is a sample of posts:

- How to Make Your Own Seed-Starter Mix
- Compost Worms 101 series
- How to Sprout Mung Beans
- 12 Ways to Critter-Proof Your Garden
- Mulch Do’s and Don’ts
- Sautéed Cucumbers
- Creamy Apple Pie
- How to Make a Suet Plug Bird Feeder

- A Hobby, A Passion … Or An Idol? {My Story and Help for Others}

Okay … this is where I share something personal and a bit embarrassing. I thought long and hard as to whether or not I would share this, but in the spirit of transparency here we go.

{Gulp} … I’ve never canned. Hello? Are you still there?

That was NOT easy to share, but there ya have it. I’ve never claimed to have canned, but you might have assumed I’ve canned. Truth be told, canning has seemed scary and overwhelming.

My mom canned when I was young. I remember her canning but not a lot about it. I was young, and, let’s face it, when you’re 10 years old (or however old I was) you really don’t care how the food gets onto your dinner plate.

I think it might have been last year when I decided I wanted to try to can. I mentioned something about it at a family gathering last summer, and my uncle offered to GIVE me his and my aunt’s pressure canner. I think they were pretty much done with gardening, or at least canning, and I was in need of a canner. I offered to pay them something, but last Christmas they just gave it to me. :)

Part of why I share that is so you’ll know – from someone who has never canned – after watching At Home Canning for Beginners & Beyond (affiliate link) I’M READY TO CAN!! More importantly, I’m ready to can because Kendra makes it look SO EASY.

She walks you through some canning safety items, shows you step by step how to can a variety of food, reiterates important things to remember (although there’s not that much), and it’s a DVD so you can REWIND, REPLAY, AND PAUSE. :)

I’m sure you’ll read some amazing reviews about this DVD from people who already know how to can. Their reviews are no less important, but, for me, hearing someone who WAS afraid and overwhelmed at the idea of canning but is NO LONGER afraid BECAUSE of watching this DVD, that speaks volumes to me … if I were in your shoes, which I am. Okay, that’s starting to get confusing.

My point is, my natural tendency is to think, “Sure, it looks easy to you because you ALREADY KNOW how to can.”

A review from an experienced canner may be exactly what YOU need. We’re all different.

A Pantry Paratus Exclusive SALE!!!

This next sale is exclusive to those following Your Gardening Friend. (If you’re reading this post then you’re following Your Gardening Friend. :) )

Pantry Paratus (affiliate link) is a family-owned business located in Montana. As stated on their website, Paratus is latin for “ready” or “prepared.” So it’s not surprising that they sale nearly everything needed to prepare and preserve all the goodies you harvest from your garden, purchase from your local farmers’ market, or forage from the land.

Chaya, Pantry Paratus co-owner, worked out a fabulous – and exclusive! – sale for Your Gardening Friend. As you can see from the above image, it includes all-things-canning*, kitchen hardware, baking ingredients, bulk spices, and the items in their family night category.

There’s one caveat. The canners are not included in this sale. However, it’s important to understand WHY that is. Pantry Paratus canner prices are so competitive that to offer a sale would be to lose money. (That sort of defeats the purpose of a business.) Their REGULAR prices are EXTREMELY competitive (even to others’ sale prices), and they only sale American-made canners.

This EXCLUSIVE 10% OFF Sale Includes the Following:

You MUST use coupon code “GARDENING-FRIEND” to get the 10% OFF.

- All-Things-Canning* (affiliate link)
- Kitchen Hardware (affiliate link)
- Baking Ingredients (affiliate link)
- Bulk Spices (affiliate link)
- Family Night (affiliate link)

Pomona’s Universal Pectin is on sale for 20% off. You can take 10% off the already-marked-down price. :)
