Jumbo Jar Fruit Medley Centerpiece


James 5:7-8
(7) Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. (8) You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

I saw this monster size (1 gallon) canning jar a couple months ago at a grocery/department store. It can’t be used for actual canning, but as a table centerpiece and serving dish (sort of) the possibilities are endless!!

It’s perfect for a summer fruit medley centerpiece. If you don’t come across one of these jumbo jars, the same thing can be done with a quart canning jar. For something larger, try a glass cookie jar. (Goodwill is a great place to find things like that. They have ALL KINDS of neat stuff in their kitchen department.)

The goal is to end up with a colorful and delicious edible centerpiece.

There’s not a lot to say as far as directions. Just determine
– the volume* (i.e., the total number of half or whole cups) the jar will hold;
– what colors you want in your fruit centerpiece; and
– which fruit you’ll use for those colors.

*For instance, a quart container will hold (4) cups or (8) ½ cups of fruit.


  • The amount of fruit needed will depend on the size of jar.
  • Other fruit can be used (strawberries, cherries, etc.). Soft fruit like raspberries will be messy unless placed at the top of the dish.
  • You can layer the colors, as shown in the above photo, or mix all the fruit together.

      Thanks, Jacqueline. I’m so glad you’re inspired to create one for your party.

      You can even make it a few days early, if that helps with your planning. After I was done with all the photos, it sat in the fridge for a week before we dug into it. I was surprised the blueberries held up so well.

      When I was ready to start eating the fruit, I dumped everything into a bowl and stirred it all up. I wish I had taken a photo of the fruit after I had stirred it up. Once I saw the fruit colors mixed up, I think(?) I would have preferred the fruit in the jar to be mixed – it was BEAUTIFUL! (I’ll have to do it again and post it on FB.) :)

    Beautiful and yummy! I’m glad you commented that you dumped it into a bowl to eat it because I was thinking about how you’d have to eat a cup of blueberries and a cup of cantalope before you ever got to the yummy pineapple!! :D
